Love in Scrubs & Uniforms
Bianca C
We met when life was already busy enough — I was drowning in nursing school exams, clinicals, caffeine, and probably surviving on 3 hours of sleep… and he had just started his military journey. Somehow, in the middle of all that chaos, we found each other.
We started as boyfriend and girlfriend, young and hopeful, thinking long distance sounded “not that bad.” (Spoiler alert: it was very bad.)
On January 5, 2024, I said yes to being his girlfriend officially — literally just DAYS before he left for BMT. Talk about timing. One minute we were together, the next thing I knew, my relationship depended on slow snail mail letters like we were living in the 1940s.
No FaceTime.
No random “wyd” texts.
No late-night calls.
Just me staring at the mailbox like a retired grandmother waiting for pension checks.
Every letter felt like gold though. I’d reread them a hundred times while trying to survive nursing school. And while he was getting yelled at in BMT, I was getting yelled at during clinicals — so honestly, we were both fighting for our lives in different uniforms.
When he finally came back, my nursing school journey was ending… but of course life said, “not so fast.” Because right after that, he had to leave again for tech school.
And just like that, we entered our long-distance relationship era for almost a whole year.
That year taught us everything. We missed each other terribly, but we also learned how to choose each other over and over again. I became a professional airport traveler. Illinois became my second home. We made memories everywhere we could — Texas, Tennessee, Chicago, Missouri — basically turning separation into mini adventures whenever we got the chance.
Our love language became plane tickets and countdown timers.
Then came the plot twist.
We went on vacation to the Philippines, and on December 25, 2025 — which also happens to be my birthday because apparently one celebration isn’t enough for me — he proposed to me on a beach.
And of course, I said yes again.
Honestly, at that point, saying yes to him was becoming a habit.
After all the distance, airports, military schedules, nursing stress, countdowns, tears, reunions, and “see you soon” hugs, we realized something very simple:
Why keep doing long distance when we could just… get married?
So that’s exactly what we did.
On February 14, 2026 — because apparently we enjoy dramatic timing — we got married on Valentine’s Day.
Very subtle of us.
And now here we are. Together at last.
No more countdown apps.
No more airport goodbyes.
No more “I miss you” through a screen.
Just us — figuring out life side by side.
Him serving in the military.
Me working as a nurse.
Both of us learning that love isn’t always glamorous. Sometimes it’s patience, sacrifice, missed holidays, delayed flights, handwritten letters, and choosing each other even when life keeps testing you.
And somehow, between military orders and nursing chaos, we built a life that feels like home. ❤️
