My Air Force Marriage
Leilani M
I met my husband thanks to my roommate at my first Air Force base. She had breakfast with him and she told me about him having a motorcycle of one I just got done reading about at the Exchange in a magazine. I then had a chance to have breakfast with her and him. I told him that I was interested in riding on the motorcycle.
My ex-fiancé had a different one. We spent time at other chow hall breakfasts just chatting. He just wanted someone to chum around with and so did I. He said he was from an area that I had a half-sister living near there. He did say that he was going TDY and that we could then ride on the motorcycle when he got back. Well, it is now 50 years we just celebrated in married life. I am the retiree, he spent 4 years in his career field.
And after two years wanted to come back to the Air Force, unfortunately he did not get to stay in his first career field as he was trained into a different on. So, 4 more years for him with another honorable discharge. And I spent 20 1/2 years working with aircrew members in various areas. Even had TDYs and a remote assignment. When we were first married, we heard that military to military marriages only lasted on average 5 years. Well, we sure survived that statistic.
